Treatment
Due to recent media exposure, hoarding has become a topic discussed among many in our society. Unfortunately, this can and sometimes does lead to negative and hurtful words said about individuals who struggle with hoarding behaviors. We feel it is important that we take on the challenge together in de-stigmatizing this problem and support those who are brave in seeking help.
Fortunately, there are more and more research studies being done on how to effectively treat hoarding disorder. Currently, Allison Bonifay offers evidenced-based individual treatment sessions (in-office and in-home) as well as group treatment sessions. Both approaches have been found to be highly effective. Our goal is to provide a therapeutic approach that is supportive, paced appropriately, and ensures the client retains complete control during treatment. We commit to helping those in treatment gain the respect they deserve and regain a feeling of empowerment and hope.
Allison Bonifay and Kevin Ashworth have considerable experience treating hoarding disorder. They enjoy educating others on how to view and treat hoarding behaviors from a mental health perspective and have provided multiple trainings and presentations. Audiences have included: Multnomah, Columbia, Washington, and Clackamas County DHS service providers, in-home service providers from Portland Metro non-profit organizations, individuals from the City of Portland Fire Department, Police Department, and representatives from various housing authorities. They have spoken at local and national scientific conferences on the topic and actively consult with and train fellow clinicians.
